The Tassie felters had their August meeting where we looked at making our art bra's for our entry into the wearable art section for the Hobart Show.  There was such a range of bra's and they all looked so good. Keep an eye out for them at the show.

A month rolls around very fast and before I know it its time for the Tassie Felters get together. This month Niki showed us how to make felted braclets. And then we had some show and tell. Lesley models Jaquelline's wonderful dress.

illuminated felt lights

 I went to a workshop on making illinated felt lights. It was run by Strattie, one of our wonderful felters from the west coast. For a change for most of us we used corridale for the felting so we could create a stronger finished product. The workshop was held at Joys wonderful Nandroya studio surrounded by their vineyard.

 There are various styles and designs that can be made by these felted lights.

upwolfing felt at the Tassie felters

This March at the Tassie Felters group we were luck enough to have a visit from Strattie who is one of our west coast members and the creater of the west coast fibre arts weekend. She showed us what upwolfing is all about. This is a felting technique created by dutch felter Irene Van Der Wolf which creates 3d texture on the surface of the felt. 

 A foam mat is used which has small holes in it, these are where the texture is created.

 And for some light relief Jaqueline brought in her Ze-Bra she had made previously to help inspire us in thoughts of creating a piece for later in the year.

sustainable livinf fair

Kerrie and I spent the day at the sustainable living fair demonstrating felting to anyone interested. We were there 4 hours and were kept busy the whole time. It was so good to see so many people interested in giving felting a go.

We were next to the Handweavers spinners and dyers guild and the wonderful Tasmanian basket weavers. How great to see so many talented women creating .

I have been having lots of fun felting lately. Each month I go along to the Tassie felters group and we try out new techniques and have some fun.

Above is one of my cracked mud pieces and below is my felted picture, before embellishment.

And below is the same picture after I added some embellishment and on the left is some homework from the group. We were all given small pieces of felt in various colours and shapes and we had to come up with a finished piece. Mine is the circle of life. Who would have thought felting was so much fun.

A new felting group called Tassie felters has started up in Battery Point and I went along for the first meeting of 2015.
The topic was felt samples so we all watched a great demo by Jacqueline on how to make a felt sample then we were let loose on our wool. Everyone had lots of fun and created such diverse pieces.
