HWSD Guild exhibition

Two years can roll around very quickly. The Hand weavers, spinners and dyers of Tasmania exhibition was recently opened in BUrnie by our president Eva. It was great to see so many items in the exhibition and such a DIVERSITY ( as the title of the exhibition says) of works. It is always hard to do an exhibition justice just by taking photos but I will share a few that I took.

A woven piece called Flow, by me.

Felted hats by Strattie.

Audrey, my stylised flower.

Irene wearing her woven jacket which features on the exhibition brochure.

A woven and threaded piece by me.

Felted lamps by Strattie

One of my favourite pieces of felt and emboidery

I just loved these hats.

Some of those members who put in many hours putting the exhibition together.

This felted and natural dyed , using pepper bush neclace was the winner of the first time exhibitor award.

This piece was woven by a first time exhibitor who I believe is in her 90s. She used wire tho create this stunning work.

may felting fun

A month rolls around very fast and before I know it its time for the Tassie Felters get together. This month Niki showed us how to make felted braclets. And then we had some show and tell. Lesley models Jaquelline's wonderful dress.

More lovelyness made by Jaquelline. Just what we need as the weather turns colder.

These birds adorn the dress above. They are just lovely.

upwolfing felt at the Tassie felters

This March at the Tassie Felters group we were luck enough to have a visit from Strattie who is one of our west coast members and the creater of the west coast fibre arts weekend. She showed us what upwolfing is all about. This is a felting technique created by dutch felter Irene Van Der Wolf which creates 3d texture on the surface of the felt.

A foam mat is used which has small holes in it, these are where the texture is created.
Strattie explaining to Kerrie about the process. And some flowers while they were still being shaped. We used upwolfing for the central stamens.

And for some light relief Jaqueline brought in her Ze-Bra she had made previously to help inspire us in thoughts of creating a piece for later in the year.

judbury crafters

On Monday the Judbury crafters met for their monthly crafting and chatting. Here are some of the things that people had brought along.

Lesley working on her felt flowers and Valerie talking in the background. Below is one of my felted pieces.

A lovely felted bag made from left over felt

Still talking.

And lots more show and tell.

Felt embroidery workshop

While at Bicheno I also did a workshop on embroidered felt pieces. The wonderful Marilyn from the Westbury area showed us how the create some magical felt designs. She very kindly gave us some of her felted alpaca pieces. With such a wonderful starting point  we were destined to create a magical piece. The top two pieces are her work and the last one is my work in progress. I am in love with her work. A huge thankyou to her for sharing her work with us.

felting fun

I have been having lots of fun felting lately. Each month I go along to the Tassie felters group and we try out new techniques and have some fun.
Above is one of my cracked mud pieces and below is my felted picture, before embellishment.

And below is the same picture after I added some embellishment and on the left is some homework from the group. We were all given small pieces of felt in various colours and shapes and we had to come up with a finished piece. Mine is the circle of life. Who would have thought felting was so much fun.

Sue Evans felting workshop

The wonderful Sue Evans ran a felting workshop at the Guild recently. 10 very keen felters took part in the fun of creating a sample scarf. Bubble wrap and colourful fleece filled the space.

Here we have Sue demonstrating some techniques.
And some of the finished samples. We all had so much fun and Sue is such a great teacher.
